It is terribly hard to be a music teacher these days. I teach young kids, and often I am horrified to see the kind of music that they and all their friends know and love. Just reading the lyrics or looking at the album art, I find so much blatant evil (most of it is not subtle anymore!) — sexualized images of gross (in both senses of the word) immodesty, increasingly less hidden occult imagery, demonic doctrines, foul language, violence, depression, suicide — so much blatant darkness.
I’ve attached pictures to this post of /just one/ of the many Satanic music artists around today, Billie Eilish. I came to know about Billie Eilish through my music students. She is one of the very most popular artists among young people today — and she is also one of the most /blatantly dark/ popular music artists I’ve seen. Often the seemingly most sweet, innocent girls love to listen to Billie Eilish and might not even realize what exactly she’s singing about. Scrolling through the lyrics of song after song of hers, I was appalled to hardly find any songs of hers that might remotely be possible for my students to sing.
Here are some of the lyrics to her popular song, “bury a friend”:
“What do you want from me? Why don’t you run from me? What are you wondering? What do you know? Why aren’t you scared of me? Why do you care for me? When we all fall asleep, where do we go?
… Today, I’m thinkin’ about the things that are deadly The way I’m drinkin’ you down Like I wanna drown, like I wanna end me
Step on the glass, staple your tongue (ahh) Bury a friend, try to wake up (ah ahh) Cannibal class, killing the son (ahh) Bury a friend, I wanna end me
I wanna end me I wanna, I wanna, I wanna end me I wanna, I wanna, I wanna”
Do you see how dark, how violent, how suicidal, how perverse these lyrics are? “I’m thinking about the things that are deadly” … “I wanna end me” … “Staple your tongue” … “Bury a friend” … “Cannibal class, killing the son” … This is what /your children/ may be listening to! Among other lyrics (and videos!) from the pit of hell.
And it’s not just Billie Eilish.
Look at some of the lyrics of Katy Perry’s song, E.T., describing a sexual encounter with an alien from “outer space”:
“You’re so hypnotizing Could you be the devil, could you be an angel Your touch magnetizing Feels like I’m floating, leaves my body glowing
They say be afraid You’re not like the others, futuristic lovers Different DNA, they don’t understand you
You’re from a whole other world A different dimension You open my eyes And I’m ready to go, lead me into the light
Kiss me, k-k-kiss me Infect me with your love and fill me with your poison Take me, t-t-take me Wanna be a victim, ready for abduction Boy, you’re an alien, your touch so foreign Its supernatural, extraterrestrial”
This is exactly the same sort of perversion that happened in Genesis chapter 6 when the fallen angels came down and took human wives for themselves and they produced half-breed, giant children. Except now this is about “aliens,” not fallen angels or demons, of course (sarcasm). (Even though the second line of the song mentions “Could you be the devil, could you be an angel”.) It’s just like wicked Aleister Crowley (Satanic occultist) said, “Today they call them angels and demons, tomorrow they will call them something else.” And here this wicked Katy Perry (Lord, rescue her from her darkness!) is promoting in kids’ minds that it’s a wonderful thing to be abducted by aliens and taken as a “victim” in their sexual whims.
Even dear old Taylor Swift, who I used to enjoy listening to (and not all of her songs are bad) is joining in promoting the devil’s doctrines, sometimes more subtly. Here’s a snippet of lyrics from “Welcome To New York,” describing people moving to New York for a new life:
“Everybody here was someone else before And you can want who you want Boys and boys and girls and girls
Welcome to New York It’s been waitin’ for you”
Did you catch it? The song is telling you, in New York you are free to /want/ anyone that you want — it’s totally okay if boys are in relationships with other boys and girls are doing it up with other girls. The old rules don’t matter anymore; we can escape from the stranglehold of society and do whatever we want to do. That’s what the song is promoting.
Yet, this is not what God has told us. He has said that in the beginning, He made us “male and female” — that’s it! And He said “a man will be joined with his wife,” leaving no room for a man to be joined to “his husband” or a woman to be joined to “her wife” — this is anti-God perversion! — the kind that comes from a depraved mind (Romans 1). And those who live this kind of lifestyle will not have any share in God’s Kingdom (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
If all of this isn’t enough for you, look at people like Ariana Grande who are sexualized to the max, completely immodest, worse than some porn materials, complete with seducing lyrics and a feminist agenda. Just look at (not with children present) the lyrics to the blasphemous song “God is a woman” and then take a glance at how sexual and perverse even the /thumbnail/ of the YouTube video for that song (or most of her songs) is.
Friends, we need to be on guard! For our own sakes, and even more for our children’s sakes. The world is increasingly more wicked. We are supposed to be in the world (we have to be; that’s where our bodies live) but not /of the world/. The apostle John wrote:
“Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s. The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever.” 1 John 2:15-17 WEB
We can’t love this world’s garbage if we are a child of God!
Or as the apostle Paul said (quoting the Old Testament and then giving his comments on it):
“‘Come out from among them, and be separate,” says the Lord. “Touch no unclean thing. I will receive you. I will be to you a Father. You will be to me sons and daughters,” says the Lord Almighty.’
Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” 2 Corinthians 6:17b-7:1 WEB
We need to be separate from the world (not even touching those things that are filthy) — that is what the word “holy” means, in the first place — “set apart.” As my friend, pastor Dean Odle, has said, when you become a Christian, you need to “break up with the devil, and give him back his stuff.”
So let’s get rid of all this Satanic, demonic, worldly, sensual, dark, perverse garbage that is being disguised as “music” and “entertainment” and “art” these days and choose to be God’s holy people of light, “so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world” Philippians 2:15 NASB
